Queen Elizabeth the second’s monarchy extends to Canada as well, and as her Diamond jubilee celebrations are all set to commence in 2012, the Mint is now ready to play its part. They are now out with collectors’ special set of coins and other Canadian themes for the company. First up is the $300 Pure Gold Coin with Diamond cast in a 99.999% pure 1/10th ounce of gold and feature the world’s first “genuine diamond insert.” This allows the proud owner of this innovative coin to admire the diamond’s brilliance on either side of a coin. Limited to 1500 coins, the coins have been designed by Laurie McGaw on the reverse and Susanna Blunt on the obverse and retails at CAD 2,000 ($1,920).
If that doesn’t impress you, there are other options you can look at. There is the 2011 Platinum Coin featuring the elusive predator Cougar. The one-ounce, 99.95% pure platinum coin sports the endangered animal, and the coin with a face value of $300 is limited to 200 coins. The coin is priced at CAD 3,000 ($2875) and designed by Emily Damstra on the reverse and Susanna Blunt on the obverse.
Don’t miss the 2012 $500 Pure Gold Coin that celebrates the 100TH anniversary of the first Canadian Gold Coins. The CAD 12,274 ($11,700) 5-ounce pure gold coin features elements of the 1912 original design and bears King George V’s effigy on the other side.
And if you want a box full of collectibles instead, you can pick up the Gold Maple Leaf Set – 5th Anniversary of the Million Dollar Coin (2012). The collection consists of 99.999% pure gold coins with serrated edges, designed by Stan Witten (reverse) and Susanna Blunt (obverse).
