Leica has released another special edition camera which has been created in collaboration with British designer Paul Smith. It’s the second time the famed German camera manufacturer has joined forces with Paul Smith. Called the Leica CL ‘Edition Paul Smith’, the special edition camera, as the name suggests, is based on the Leica CL model and is identical to the regular model as far as the tech specs are concerned. The special treatment given to the limited edition camera includes a unique color scheme which is inspired by Paul Smith’s custom Land Rover Defender from 2016, which “mixed together 27 different colors that referenced the Defender’s diverse history as a service vehicle in the British emergency services, military and rural settings.”
In addition to a ‘bold blue’ top plate and the use of ‘vibrant accent colors’ on the top buttons, the Leica CL ‘Edition Paul Smith’ features the phrase ‘Look and see’ located on the back of the camera in his own handwriting. Also present is a large eye illustration on the viewfinder. The special edition camera is limited to just 900 examples, each individually numbered. The Leica CL ‘Edition Paul Smith’ arrives in a specially designed presentation box which includes the camera body, an Elmarit-TL 18mm f/2.8 ASPH lens, a neon rope strap with Paul Smith and Leica branding, a custom dust cloth that features a photo print of Paul’s vintage cameras, and a certificate of authentication. It can be purchased from Paul Smith retailers, Leica Stores, and Boutiques for $3,995 USD.
