Cocktails may or may not be getting tastier, but they’re definitely getting more extravagant. These days, luxe libations are no longer served with a side of truffle fries or olives. Upping the ante on a fancy dinner date is a cocktail that comes with a side of the ultra-coveted Hermès Birkin. Content creator Mister Lewis visited the ever-glam Papi Steak in Miami and asked the server what their most expensive drink was. The server revealed that the cocktail, called ‘It’s Not a Bag, It’s a Cocktail’, sells for $33,000, with the Birkin bag included.
Ditch the beautiful Birkin, and all you’ll need to pay is a measly $150 for the Belvedere 10 cocktail, served with a peach garnish and a more realistic side of caviar. Frequented by celebrities and often seen on TikTok, the dramatic 93-seat chophouse is known for its flashy items, like the $1,000 ‘Beef Case’ tomahawk steak, a spectacle complete with changing lights throughout the entire building to celebrate the lavish order, according to Daily Mail.
But not everyone online was dazzled. Many called the bag in question a fake, while others dubbed it the easiest way to get your hands on one, raising doubts about its credibility. After all, Hermès makes it notoriously difficult to buy a Birkin in-store, requiring a purchase history and the whole shebang. Why would they let a restaurant make it that easy for well-heeled Birkin lovers to nab one with a simple sip? It’s also possible that the bag is genuine, bought by the owner for $12,000 or more, then sold at nearly double the price as part of a secondhand luxury cocktail package. That scores a hefty profit, tons of publicity, and a customer willing to splurge on a $33,000 drink. If that’s not a win-win, then what is?
Several other restaurants have tried similar gimmicks. Chicago’s Adalina serves the Marrow Martini with a dazzling diamond tennis necklace, bringing the cost to a staggering $13,000. In Dubai, FloBerry, Flower Boutique was offering free Hermès bags to customers purchasing its ultra-luxury floral arrangements, starting at $12,000. One of the options included a Hermès Kelly Dépêches 25 Pouch in Togo leather, in black.
