The Peninsula Shanghai hotel has one of the best fleet of cars in the world and last year our editor-in-chief had the chance to experience the grandeur of the five-star property and some of its uber-luxurious rides. While a restored 1934 Rolls Royce Phantom remains to be the star of Peninsula Shanghai’s collection of cars, the hotel has recently taken delivery on a BMW i8 becoming the world’s first five-star hotel to have the hybrid sportscar in its fleet. The Peninsula Shanghai is known for supporting electric mobility and features a selection of public charging stations for local residents to use.
As a result, BMW provided the i8 to the hotel free of charge in a bid to promote electric mobility in China. The German automaker also handed over a BMW i3 to the Kempinski Hotel Beijing last year. BMW is promoting the construction of public charging networks in China by collaborating with major Chinese state and local enterprises such as the State Grid, Shanghai Electric Power, Expo Shanghai Group, Vanke Group and Swire Group. The BMW i8 joins the Peninsula Shanghai’s existing fleet of Minis, Rolls-Royces and BMW 7-Series models, which are used for the hotel’s limousine service.
