The Brabus Shadow 1000 XC Cross Cabin is what happens when a German performance tuner decides that a 38-foot powerboat should have the attitude of one of its supercars. Developed in partnership with Finnish builder Axopar Boats, the flagship is part of the new Shadow 38 range and combines a menacing carbon-fiber exterior with a considerably more luxurious interior. Its dark Black Ops-inspired styling, sharp surfaces and red accents give it an unusually aggressive presence on the water. Yet beneath that dramatic appearance is a versatile platform designed for far more than simply going fast. Owners can configure the aft deck for watersports, entertaining or relaxed cruising, with options including activity platforms and an integrated wet bar.
The numbers are what make the Shadow 1000 particularly difficult to ignore. Two Mercury Racing 500R V8 outboards sit at the stern, producing a combined 1,000 horsepower and giving the boat a claimed top speed of up to 60 knots. That translates to roughly 69 mph, an extraordinary figure for a boat of this size and one that puts rapid coastal cruising firmly at the center of its character.
Brabus says the flagship takes inspiration from its bespoke supercars, with the powertrain engineered to deliver strong acceleration and precise handling rather than simply chasing a headline top speed. The result is a boat intended to feel responsive and purposeful whenever the throttles are opened.
The performance-focused character does not mean the cabin has been stripped down to the essentials. Brabus gives the Shadow 1000 a lighter, warmer interior treatment with premium marine upholstery that contrasts with the dark exterior, while the helm incorporates twin Simrad displays for navigation and boat management. The cabin also provides a sleeping area, making the boat capable of overnight use rather than limiting it to short daytime excursions. Its adaptable layout allows the same vessel to serve as a fast coastal runabout during the day and a comfortable retreat when the pace slows. This mixture of speed, technology and flexibility is central to the boat’s appeal.
At €469,500 (roughly $547,000), the Shadow 1000 XC Cross Cabin occupies an unusual position in the luxury marine market. It is considerably more than a conventional dayboat, yet its appeal is less about traditional yacht grandeur and more about delivering the sensation of a high-performance machine on the water. Brabus has also recently announced a partnership with Italian yacht builder AB Yachts to develop its first superyacht, signaling that the company’s ambitions in the marine world extend well beyond high-speed dayboats.
The Shadow 1000 therefore feels like part of a broader push to translate Brabus’s automotive identity into increasingly ambitious vessels. For now, it remains a fast, lavish and highly configurable powerboat for owners who would rather arrive at the next stretch of coastline than simply cruise toward it.
