Spanish Formula 1 superstar Fernando Alonso appears to be very excited and satisfied with his latest purchase, a custom-built 60 Sunreef Power Eco catamaran. After recently taking delivery of his new eco-friendly catamaran, the two-time Formula 1 champion promptly decided to take the luxury vessel to the open seas and enjoyed a yachting holiday with friends and family on board. Sharing his first impressions, Alonso said: “The 60 Sunreef Power Eco gave me exactly the yachting experience I was looking for. Long, fume-free and quiet cruises let you enjoy the seas on a whole new level. This yacht has some amazing technology that cannot be found anywhere else.”

Alonso commissioned the custom solar-powered catamaran back in September 2021, claiming that it was an easy choice for him. Talking about the Polish yard Sunreef, Alonso added: “They combine luxury and sustainability like no other shipyard. When I visited their facility in Poland, I saw first-hand how all the details are taken care of.” The celebrated F1 driver was reportedly deeply involved in the build process of his luxury vessel and even made several visits to Sunreef’s shipyard in Gdansk, Poland. Additionally, he even chartered a bigger 80-foot model while waiting for the delivery of his custom catamaran, according to Robb Report.

Fernando Alonso isn’t the first celebrity client to join the Sunreef family, which already includes names like Rafael Nadal, Nico Rosberg, and adventurer Mike Horn. “I think [Sunreef] is the only company that takes sustainability to a very serious level,” said Alonso during in an interview with BOAT International. “To have a fully electric catamaran powered by solar panels made perfect sense to me.” The 60 Sunreef Power Eco is a versatile multi-hull vessel equipped with electric motors that allow it to cruise smoothly and silently. It features in-house developed composite-integrated solar panels built into the yacht’s hull sides, superstructure, and bimini roof, which feed power to the vessel’s lightweight battery bank. Measuring 60 feet in length, the electric catamaran can comfortably accommodate 12 guests and four crew.
