Daimler AG has started to expand the top-of-the-line Maybach marquee that it brought back from the dead to meet the surging demand for higher-end models. And the latest to join the line-up is an uber-luxurious drop-top SUV built on the German carmaker’s G500 4×4 Squared. Called the Mercedes-Maybach G-Class 650 Landaulet, the luxury SUV will see a limited run of only 99 units with each priced at $500,000 without any extras added. The half a million dollar price-tag of the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet has helped it dethrone the Bentley Bentayga to become the world’s most expensive SUV.
“This car meets the highest demands for luxury and yet still has all the elements that make the G-Class a real off-roader,” said Gunner Guethenke, head of Mercedes’s SUV business. “Customers who buy the marque’s G-Class are looking for something unique,” he further added. Revealed at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show, the G650 Landaulet is powered by a V12 engine and features a landaulet style – there is also a fabric roof that can be transformed into a convertible top. The limited edition also in a way waves goodbye to the current generation G-Class which will be replaced very soon.
