Not Emirates or Qatar Airways – It is Delta Airlines that has the world’s coolest shuttle car. It’s a $1.5 million Porsche 918 Spyder, and you don’t even need to fly first class to get chauffeured in it.

The Porsche 918 Spyder arrived a decade ago as a groundbreaking hybrid hypercar, joining the McLaren P1 and LaFerrari to form the “Holy Trinity.” With the production limited to just 918 examples, it’s very difficult to spot one. However, if you are visiting Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), you can not only get up close with a Porsche 918 Spyder but also get the chance of being chauffeured in the stunning hypercar if you’re lucky enough. Delta Airlines has launched a new marketing campaign, offering a few fortunate customers a unique opportunity to be driven in what could only be perceived as the coolest airport shuttle.

Delta collaborated with Porsche North America to come up with this limited-time experience for its customers. The relationship between the two brands goes back more than a decade; you might be aware that the airline’s fleet of shuttle cars already includes Macan and Panamera models, which are offered to only select customers. While the two Porsche SUVs are quite special, they are no match for the iconic hybrid hypercar. Delta’s Elite Services team has been tasked with chauffeuring the lucky customers in the million-dollar-plus Porsche.

The best thing about the campaign named “Surprise and Delight” is that it’s not restricted to first-class frequent fliers. The program is open to all of Delta’s Medallion holders visiting Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta airport. Slated to run through the end of this month, the chosen customers will be given a ride in a Porsche 918 Spyder decked out in Dark Blue Metallic color. Pictures of the hypercar featuring Delta’s logo on the doors were recently uploaded on Monroe Garage’s Instagram page.

Porsche 918 Spyder – a revolutionary halo car
Porsche revealed the 918 Spyder at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show as a concept, where it received overwhelming interest from Porsche patrons. The series production model arrived in 2013 as a direct competitor to the LaFerrari and McLaren P1. The hypercar is powered by a hybrid powertrain that uses a 4.6-liter flat-crank V8 engine capable of producing 605 horsepower. The combustion engine is assisted by a pair of electric motors, raising the total output to 887 hp. Originally launched with a base price of $845,000, a well-maintained example can easily fetch in excess of $1.5 million in the current market.
