The Louis Vuitton Tambour is coming out in an all-new avatar. In fact, the entire watch lineup is undergoing an overhaul, with the French luxury label cutting 80% of its existing product lineup to focus on upscaling its forthcoming products. One such promising product is the Tambour, that’s got a new lease of life as it is reimagined as a sports watch with an integrated bracelet. The only thing that remains unchanged in nearly two decades is the three-hand design. “It’s not a revolution for the market, but a revolution for us because of everything we are retiring and a new price point. On the scale of the brand, it’s a small gamble, but for Louis Vuitton watches, it’s truly a radical change,” shared Jean Arnault, Louis Vuitton’s director of watches.
“Going from a 4,000 euro price average to the 20,000-and-up range in one go is a daring gamble. It’s true that we have a lot of unknowns in doing this.” The new and improved LV 40mm Tambour flaunts a case size measuring a svelte 8.3mm, making this thickness its USP. The Tambour Steel comes in blue or grey dial, Arabic numerals, and a small-second display at six o’clock. The integrated steel bracelet gives it a sleek look.
The watch is powered by the caliber LFT023 automatic movement comprising a 22-karat rose-gold micro-rotor, 31 jewels, and a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. LV is cutting its roster of over 100 watches to just 20 active references. “Our goal is not to put a watch on everyone’s wrist. It’s to ensure that our historical collectors, our brand aficionados, can recognize themselves in a more entry-level high-end watchmaking piece,” Arnault added.
