Ritu Kumar’s Silk Tale collection revives India’s print heritage!


Ace Indian wear designer Ritu Kumar has launched a capsule collection of re-produced Vintage Hand-block woven silk saris. Titled “A Silk Tale”, this collection is a tribute to weavers who have put their blood, sweat and tears into producing a fabric which epitomises the Indian heritage.

Bringing back the printing era, these saris have a contemporary touch. The collection is in a wide assortment of chintz, paisleys and bold floral prints. From cream, yellow to fuschia, reds, turquoise and emerald tones, each printed sari has its own uniqueness in terms of richness of the fabric and embroidery. She has recreated the vintage effect of hand-block prints. One of the highpoint of the collection was craft work done using fabrics such as Murshidabad silk and silk chinnon. The range celebrates the hereditary skills of Bengali weavers as they weave ancient designs in originally conceived aesthetics.

Ritu Kumar’s Silk Tale collection are available for a limited period at the Ritu Kumar Store at Khan Market, New Delhi.The price range for the saris starts from INR 16,000 upwards.
