Can Dubai ever be known for something other than the iconic Burj Khalifa? Apparently so, if homegrown developer Emaar Properties can turn its vision into reality. The firm has unveiled ambitious plans for the “Emaar Super Tower,” a project that aims to rival their own Skidmore, Owings & Merrill-designed world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa. Although still in the conceptual stage, the goal is clear; to build a skyscraper that either surpasses or comes close to their previous architectural record.
The new tower will incorporate cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices, with its location yet to be confirmed. Rumors suggest it may rise near Dubai Creek or Downtown Dubai. According to Ahlanlive.com, the design could take one of four forms: a rocket-shaped tower, a futuristic structure with gothic spires, a glass tube-style skyscraper, or a luxury-themed high-rise.
Much like the 828-meter (2,722-foot) Burj Khalifa, the Emaar Super Tower, expected to be of a similar height, will house high-end offices, leisure facilities, hotels, and residences. If all goes as planned, it will compete with Azizi Developments’ $1.63 billion Burj Azizi skyscraper, which aims to become the world’s second-tallest at 2,400 feet. The 131+ story Burj Azizi is set to be a dominant feature of Dubai’s skyline in the Dubai World Trade Centre area along Sheikh Zayed Road, with completion slated for 2028. With these ambitious projects, Dubai’s skyline is poised for an exciting future.
