Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg owns a $300 million superyacht named Launchpad, another $100 million support vessel named Wingman, two Gulfstream aircraft, and over 1,400 acres of land in Kauai, Hawaii. Yet, the world’s sixth-richest man couldn’t get himself a couple of T-shirts, and on Instagram, of all places. In a hilarious case of not just mistaken identity but disputed identity, the tech tycoon worth $253 billion couldn’t buy a couple of outfits on Instagram when a small online boutique suspected someone was impersonating him and rejected his purchase. All that wealth, all that fame, and still your own platform doesn’t allow you to shop. The irony is comical.

It isn’t entirely the fashion store’s fault. The small boutique was in utter disbelief that the man who cofounded Facebook and eventually bought Instagram for $1 billion would himself be ordering outfits and filling in shipping and address details. However, the truth of the matter is that the 41-year-old father of three, like most of us mere mortals, makes some of his fashion purchases on Instagram. He also indulges in casual browsing before bed every once in a while as he finds it calming. Despite having added his personal email, credit card, and home address for shipping, the small online boutique smelled a rat and rejected the order for the man who owns Instagram, reported The New York Times.

The very ordinary habit that nearly every Instagram user indulges in on a daily basis is shared by one of the world’s most famous billionaires. In a 2025 interview with fashion account Drip, Zuckerberg said, “I spend so much time in Instagram ads curating my closet.” After this story breaks, perhaps Zuckerberg will never have to go through another rejection again, and boutiques will think twice before hitting the cancel order button.

Mark Zuckerberg style evolution
Mark Zuckerberg was once synonymous with drab, unchanging grey t-shirts, wearing hoodies to board meetings. The lack of style was his personal style until a few years ago when the caterpillar turned into a billion-dollar stylish butterfly.

The Silicon Valley billionaire went from sporting high-end luxury timepieces to wearing gold chains and even attending Milan Fashion Week for Prada’s Fall/Winter 2026 women’s show, sitting front row no less. Now he dresses in Prada, Brunello Cucinelli, Loro Piana, and the like, so much so that The New York Times reports Zuckerberg buys enough from Loro Piana to receive special chocolate wafers reserved for its top clients.

The transformation is not the result of adding a fashion stylist to his long list of employees and staff, but his own interest in putting his best foot forward. Zuckerberg told The Times that he mostly styles himself. It went from wearing the same grey t-shirts to making a challenge of sorts to find “the 20 polo-collared shirts that I like the best.” However, it is hilarious that the tycoon who is catered to the t by Italian luxury houses seemed implausible to a small boutique.
Note – At the time of this writing, according to Forbes Mark Zuckerberg has networth of $253.4 billion.
