While the world continues to ogle and discuss centibillionaire Jeff Bezos’s superyacht Koru and its cruising history, the Amazon co-founder has gone ahead and bought himself a new toy: an $80 million private jet. The Gulfstream G700 is the fourth addition to the tech tycoon’s $200 million private jet collection, which is still only half of Koru’s $500 million worth. He still has room for another four yachts to match the grandeur of his sailing yacht, the largest in the world. Nonetheless, the Gulfstream G700 is the latest and most coveted aircraft on the market, coveted by all high-net-worth individuals.
The G700 boasts a range of 7,750 nautical miles and the largest Gulfstream cabin. Bezos will enjoy expansive space not only at sea but also in the skies, as the aircraft features five living areas, a grand suite with a shower for him to rest and rejuvenate, and even a new ultragalley to maintain a royal experience among the clouds.
The hyped asset, expectedly, grabbed the attention of JetSpy and Jack Sweeney, the famous jet tracker who has irked billionaires like Elon Musk, Mark Cuban, and even superstar singer Taylor Swift. According to Sweeney’s tweet, the brand-new Gulfstream G700 joined Bezos’s fantastic fleet on July 10th. It has since made 28 flights in 39 days, emitting 264 tons of carbon dioxide—about 17 times what the average American emits in a year, per Business Insider.
Even more interesting is that the tycoon’s purchase flew under the radar for a month due to the FAA’s Privacy ICAO Aircraft Address (PIA) program, which allows private jet owners to use a temporary aircraft registration to conceal their flight history. When you are the world’s second-richest man with $203 billion, there’s no hiding your megayachts and private jets for very long.
Last year, the 60-year-old’s Koru superyacht was reported to emit a staggering 1,500 times more greenhouse gases than the average person. The 417-foot-long vessel was responsible for over 7,150 tonnes of CO2 annually.
