Earlier in the day, we had a look at the Huawei smartwatch that was launched at the 2015 Mobile World Congress. Now, if you are planning to buy a smartwatch, the Huawei Watch might be the closest thing to a luxury timepiece with a traditional watch layout. However, a Swiss watchmaker is soon going to join the smartwatch bandwagon by introducing a new timepiece that will have the best of both worlds. Swiss watch brand Mondaine has unveiled a smartwatch with an analogue face – which it says is the first Swiss watch to combine traditional watchmaking with connected technologies. It is dubbed the Mondaine Helvetica No. 1 Horological Smartwatch.
The smartwatch by Mondaine is nothing like the ones we have seen in the recent past like the Moto 360 and the upcoming Apple Watch. While the dial appears like a signature Mondaine Helvetica Bold, it features a sub dial just above the six o’clock position on its face that displays an analogue representation of the smart technology inside. “At first glance its dial bears little resemblance to the blinking LED screens of its competitors of smartwatches; it just looks like a regular Mondaine Helvetica Bold,” explained a statement from Mondaine. The watch syncs with a companion smartphone app and lets you keep track of your activity and sleep patterns using MotionX and Sleeptracker technology. You can then keep an eye on your progress throughout the day via the smaller dial. Additionally, all data can be stored in the MotionX cloud. The Mondaine Helvetica No.1 Horological Smartwatch prototype will be previewed at this year’s Baselworld, with the first watch available from fall 2015.
