Nostalgia can be a heady cocktail and usually a surefire way to make a quick buck. When you’re evoking the nostalgia of one of the most legendary motorsport victories — Sir Stirling Moss dominating the field and setting records at the 1955 Mille Miglia in his ‘722’ Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR — it had better be worth it.
German tuner HOF, also responsible for the ‘Sir Class’, the 1,048 horsepower G-Class in tribute to Sir Lewis Hamilton, is back with the HOF 1955 – a Mercedes-AMG G63 with the ferocious 4.0-liter biturbo V8 turned up to 722 horsepower, in honor of Moss’ Mille Miglia race number.
HOF, formerly known as Hofele led by former Mercedes-AMG CEO Philip Schiemer, is a German tuner with a reputation for building some special Silver Arrows. So the HOF 1955 is actually in line with the tuner’s lineage.
A G-Class isn’t the first car that springs to mind when talking about the Mille Miglia, or Moss’ 1955 victory, though. Moss covered just under 1,000 miles in just over 10 hours, averaging 99mph, for a record that stands unbeaten even today.
As for the HOF 1955, apart from the tweaked engine and 722 emblazoned across its hood, sides, and tailgate, it also boasts a full catalog of carbon fiber parts and upgrades. The paint is unique to the car, as are the tartan interiors, and it rides on pretty sweet 24-inch forged carbon fiber wheels. Interestingly, the HOF 1955’s electric running boards for the G-Class are patented. We’re sure the lucky owners of the HOF 1955 will appreciate them.
