Koenigsegg kicks off production of the CC850—a groundbreaking $3 million hypercar that packs 1,385 HP and a first-of-its-kind gearbox that is both manual and automatic

Koenigsegg has officially started production of its groundbreaking CC850 hypercar at its facility in Ängelholm, Sweden. The Swedish manufacturer has established a dedicated production line, dubbed Reodor, specifically for this remarkable vehicle that pays homage to the company’s first production car while pushing the boundaries of automotive engineering.

Originally unveiled at Pebble Beach in 2022 with a planned production run of 50 units to commemorate founder Christian von Koenigsegg’s 50th birthday, the CC850 saw its production expanded to 70 units due to overwhelming demand. Despite its staggering estimated $3 million price tag, the additional slots were swiftly claimed by eager collectors.

The CC850’s headline feature is its innovative Engage Shift System (ESS), a technological tour de force that transforms a nine-speed automatic transmission into a six-speed manual complete with a clutch pedal and gated shifter.

This unique system allows drivers to experience the engaging characteristics of a traditional manual transmission while benefiting from modern automatic transmission technology. The shifter, adorned with a Swedish flag, delivers authentic feedback and can even simulate stalling if the clutch is engaged too abruptly.

Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 engine, producing an astounding 1,385 horsepower when running on E85 ethanol fuel (or 1,185 horsepower on standard premium gasoline). The engine generates 1,020 lb-ft of torque, enabling breathtaking acceleration. The CC850 maintains an impressive 1:1 power-to-weight ratio, weighing just 3,047 pounds thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber and lightweight materials.

Koenigsegg has stated that a new CC850 will roll off the Reodor production line every two weeks. This measured approach to production means the final examples won’t be completed until late 2027, ensuring the meticulous attention to detail that Koenigsegg is known for.

The CC850 joins the Jesko and Gemera on Koenigsegg’s active production roster, with each model having its own dedicated production line—Solan for the Jesko and Ludvig for the Gemera. This expansion of production capacity reflects Koenigsegg’s growth from producing just three or four cars in its first year to becoming a prominent force in the hypercar segment.

While the CC850 wasn’t designed to break records like many of its siblings, it is a tribute to Koenigsegg’s very first production car – the legendary CC8S. The new multi-million-dollar machine represents a unique blend of nostalgic driving engagement and cutting-edge technology, making it one of the most fascinating hypercars of our time. As production begins, it stands as a testament to Koenigsegg’s continuous innovation in the ultra-high-performance automotive sector.
