Porsche’s roadmap for the future includes a very aggressive and ambitious electrification strategy. Not only is the Boxster/Cayman family going all-electric by 2025 but the German automaker expects 80% of the sales to come from EVs by the end of the decade. However, Porsche’s electrification drive is not limited to just cars. The iconic Stuttgart-based manufacturer has announced that it would develop an electric speedboat in collaboration with Austrian shipbuilder Frauscher. Called the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air, the zero-emission watercraft will share powertrain technology with the upcoming Macan EV.

Although the details are scarce at the moment, Porsche’s electric speedboat will be based on the existing 858 Fantom Air, with its hull “practically unchanged.” The 8.7-meter day cruiser’s prolusion unit will utilize technologies developed for Volkswagen Group’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform, which will underpin Porsche and Audi EVs like the Macan EV and the Audi A6 e-tron. Without giving the specifics, Porsche said they “optimized and further developed its drive technology … for use on the water.” In addition to the automaker’s 800-volt architecture, the speedboat will likely feature a 100kWh battery pack along with a “permanently excited synchronous electric motor of the latest generation.”

Other than the powertrain technology, Porsche will design the helm stand and come with a custom interior design, including seats and upholstery. The boat will accommodate up to nine people and onboard amenities will include a premium sound system and a refrigerator. “We stand for state-of-the-art, high-performance, and sustainable luxury – and we are redefining this concept. Our goal is to inspire our customers and make their dreams come true. The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air, like our sports cars, offers exceptional performance and luxury experiences,” said Lutz Meschke, Deputy Chairman and Member of the Executive Board for Finance and IT at Porsche AG. The electric speedboats will be built in the Frauscher Shipyard in Ohlsdorf, Austria. Initially, only 25 exclusive first-edition units will be produced, slated to be delivered in 2024. There’s no word on the pricing.
