Tesla’s long-promised track package for the Model S Plaid is finally here which finally unlocks the full potential of the company’s flagship electric sedan. The top-performance flagship EV was originally announced with a top speed of 200mph. However, the vehicles delivered by the company could only reach around 162mph, blaming weak brakes for the restricted top speed. The newly launched track package finally allows the Model S Plaid to reach the promised 200mph, further narrowing the performance gap with top-of-the-line supercars. This comes a year after Tesla introduced the Track mode that allowed adjustment of the stability control and improved cooling along with other improvements.

Priced at $20,000, the track package includes a carbon-ceramic brake kit along with high-performance wheels and tires. Interestingly, the brake kit can be purchased separately for $15,000 USD, while the wheel and tire package is priced at $6,000. However, the 200mph top speed cannot be unlocked without the carbon-ceramic brakes. The upgraded brake kit includes six-piston forged calipers for the front and four-piston forged calipers for the rear, all equipped with high-performance pads. The kit adds 16.1-inch carbon-silicon carbide rotors on both the front and rear. Furthermore, Tesla also says the package upgrades the system with “track-ready” brake fluid.

You might remember that Tesla promised a carbon-ceramic brake package back in 2021, but it has yet to start installing it on customers’ vehicles. As far as the rims and tires go, the track package adds new aluminum forged wheels, which Tesla calls “Zero-G.” They are fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R tires that measure 285/35R20 up front and 305/30R20 in the rear. The track package will go on sale in June 2023 and can be purchased from the Tesla app. The company claims the package can be retrofitted to 2021 and newer Plaid models.
