IWC has collaborated with Warner Bros. to launch a pair of Aquaman-themed Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital watches

IWC Schaffhausen has teamed up with Warner Bros. Pictures to introduce a pair of limited edition watches to celebrate the upcoming superhero movie Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Both the timepieces are based on the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month that debuted in 2017 with a Ceratanium case. Each limited to 25 examples, the pair is inspired by the prop watches worn by the movie’s villains, Black Manta, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Dr. Stephen Shin, played by Randall Park. Capturing the look of the prop watches, both the limited edition timepieces feature an all-black finish along with brightly-colored contrasting elements, either in red or blue.

The pair of Aquaman-themed watches are quite big in size, measuring 49mm wide and 19.5mm thick, making them some of the largest and boldest models ever created by IWC. However, despite their massive size, the watches aren’t going to be uncomfortably heavy on the wrist thanks to the use of the IWC’s Ceratanium material. This proprietary alloy combines titanium and ceramic. The watches are also equipped with the SafeDive System bezel, which prevents unintentional changes to the dive time by making the outer bezel only adjust counterclockwise. Furthermore, the pair of watches offer 100m of water resistance.

Coming to the dial, both the iterations have corresponding red or blue on the dial, hands, and inner bezel that are done in Super-Luminova. A honeycomb pattern over the calendar display offers a view of the complex movement ticking inside the case. The watches feature a perpetual calendar with digital displays for date and month, adding to the readability.

Powering the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month is the in-house caliber 89802, an automatic integrated column-wheel chronograph with a flyback function. The highly complex movement operates at 28,800 vph and has a 68-hour power reserve. The watches are available at selected IWC boutiques and are priced at $57,600 apiece.
