Porsche and TAG Heuer have a long-standing history of friendship and collaboration that can be traced back to many decades ago. While the two brands formally came together to form a strategic partnership in 2019 when Porsche entered the Formula E racing championship with TAG Heuer as title and timing partner, the rich heritage of both the companies are intertwined uniquely and interestingly. To celebrate this “beautiful friendship,” a new special edition timepiece called the TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph has been introduced as the first product in the “rich portfolio of joint projects.” There couldn’t have been a better name than Carrera to celebrate the legacy of both the brands. Carrera became an integral part of Porsche after a class win in the ‘Carrera Panamericana race of 1954’. The first Heuer Carrera chronograph was introduced in 1963 as a watch for drivers. That’s why the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph was a natural choice for the first creative product collaboration.
The special edition is based on the Tag Heuer’s Carrera Sport Chronograph and gets distinctive design features inspired by Porsche. The Porsche colors of red, black, and grey have been incorporated throughout the watch. The ceramic black tachymeter fixed bezel features Porsche’s engraved inscription – the same font has also been used for the indexes. The transparent caseback gives a view of the movement, including the oscillating mass, which was redesigned for the special edition as a tribute to Porsche’s unmistakable steering wheel and printed with names of both the brands. The texture of the dial mirrors that of asphalt has also was created especially for the watch. Powering the special edition is the in-house Calibre Heuer 02 manufacture movement that offers an 80-hour power reserve. It is presented either on a soft calf leather strap with stitching that echoes Porsche’s recognizable interior or on an interlocking bracelet inspired by Porsche’s racing cars. The TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph is delivered in bespoke packaging that matches the special edition theme and features the logos of both TAG Heuer and Porsche.
