Roman restaurant shut down for serving a fraud bill of $980

pasta_and_lobster.jpg It's extremely annoying when you go somewhere on a holiday and the locals rip you off. That's just what happened to an old Japanese couple in Rome. They were charged $980 for a seafood lunch. They were served with a bill of $810 plus $160 in tip for ordering pasta and lobster with wine and gelato at the Il Passetto restaurant near the Piazza Navona square. They filed a fraud complaint with the police. This 149 year old restaurant was shut within days by health inspectors due to hygiene reasons. "As far as I'm concerned, this restaurant should never reopen again and operating licenses should be revoked for things of this nature," Mayor Gianni Alemanno said. This kind of thing happens in Italy all the time. The restaurants owner in his defense said, "They ordered 12 oysters, two kilos of lobsters, wine, 1.5 kg of seabass and even took photos with the waiters before leaving."

Omega promotes the reunion of the lunar pioneers

The 21st of July 1969 at 2:52:20 GMT is one of the remarkable dates of history, when Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon and joined by Buzz Aldrin a few minutes later on the Apollo 11 mission. In the following forty months, the world witnessed 10 more astronauts walking the moon. Swiss watchmaker OMEGA, as a proud association with mankind’s greatest adventures, brought four of the surviving moonwalkers together along with some of the other luminaries from NASA’s Apollo program. Among the pioneers were Buzz Aldrin joined by his colleagues Charles Duke (Apollo 16), Harrison Schmitt (Apollo 17), and Eugene Cernan (Apollo 17). Among the others were Thomas Stafford (Apollo 10), Apollo flight director Gerald Griffin, and James Griffin (the NASA engineer who was responsible for the rigorous testing which led to the OMEGA speed master’s selection as the only watch qualified for all of the space agency’s piloted flights.

Hammer_clock.jpg I am a fan of the simple things. Minimalistic design appeals to me greatly. That's why this Hammer Clock hits the right spot. It's a colored circle that grabs your attention right off the bat. This big circle features a giant nail that marks 12 on the clock and pins it to the wall. There are two hands to tell you the time o course. Paul Loebach has created this simple masterpiece.

RC Mecha Godzilla walks, roars and does a light show

Bandai makes some awesome toys and this time around it has touched the Godzilla frontier. Who doesn't want this gigantic lizard thrashing around in their room? Well, maybe not in its actual size, but a 20 inch version of this remote-controlled Mecha Godzilla is perfectly okay. It's a silver beast that features flashing lights and freely roam around in your house. It walks and roars and throws light from most part of his body. I'm sure this robot will wreak some havoc in your house. The most fun part is that it does a 360 degrees head turn. The toy comes for $870, but it's all sold out, sorry. Watch the video to check out how cool it is.

Marilyn Monroe accessories fetch more than estimated price at Juliens auction

Marilyn_Monroe_accessories.jpg Marilyn Monroe’s popularity has only increased in the last few decades. Years after her death, any news of the stunning celebrity still manages to make headlines. And a recent auction just proved how popular this beauty still is. Juliens auctions auctioned various vintage accessories, garments, household goods and other memorabilia relating to Marilyn Monroe at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday, June 27, 2009. And the response was spectacular. The items were auctioned by owners who had previously purchased them from Christies and Juliens as well as from the woman who purchased the star’s home after her death. Among the items which managed to rake in a lot of moolah was a vintage necklace made of glass stones accompanied by the stars photo wearing it fetched $63,000 (A surprise since auctioneers expected it to fetch somewhere between $4000- $6000).A cotton leopard print scarf which Monroe apparently wore during her 1954 honeymoon in Japan with Joe DiMaggio also featured in the auction and fetched $8300 (again higher than its estimate of $3,000-$4,000).
