With the launch of new private rooms on some of Japan’s newest Shinkansen bullet trains, speed will meet style to enhance the travel experience. The private chambers in one of the fastest trains worldwide will be a serene space that will enthrall travelers come 2026, per Central Japan Railway. “We have to respond to the diversification of transportation needs,” JR Central President Shunsuke Niwa explained in a news conference.
Japan boasts ten Shinkansen lines, and some of the latest-model N700S trains will come with suites equipped with fancy features such as Wi-Fi, adjustable lighting and airflow, and reclining seats with leg rests. There are some interesting details like a knob on the wall to hang one’s expensive coats, blazers etc, a large window to not feel claustrophobic, light fixtures for a homely feel, and a table juxtaposed to the window to stow away water or coffee cups.
Each train will have two such rooms that can be shared by two. It is indeed a luxurious way of enjoying the vistas and commuting in utmost comfort. Relaxing in a cozy and large chair while stretching your legs after a hectic workday sounds like a mini vacation that can be afforded on a regular basis.
How much this comfort will cost commuters will be revealed later, but JR Central said the fares are expected to exceed those of the existing first-class Green Cars which cost approximately $155 for a trip from Tokyo to Kyoto. The private rooms will be accommodated on current trains by utilizing the maintenance and other spaces to not affect the number of reserved and Green Car seats.
