Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, is the world’s second-richest man, worth $238 billion. He owns and vacations on the world’s largest sailing yacht, the $500 million Koru, with his stunning fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, by his side. It’s no wonder the world can’t stop speculating about this much-in-love power couple, who have weathered scandals, expensive divorces, and public scrutiny to build a life full of love (and luxuries).
After witnessing the extravagant celebrations hosted by Asia’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani, worth $95 billion, for his son Anant’s wedding, which cost upwards of $600 million, spanning from the Indian state of Gujarat to the Italian town of Portofino, the world now expects nothing less from this American businessman.
Ever since the news of their engagement, aboard the Koru megayacht, no less, broke, the internet has been abuzz with theories about their impending wedding. In an interview with Vogue last November, Sanchez admitted she hadn’t started planning. “We’re still thinking about the wedding,” she told the magazine. “Is it going to be big? Is it going to be overseas? We don’t know yet.” Later, on the Today Show in November 2024, she shared more hints, revealing, “I have to say, I do have a Pinterest. I’m just like every other bride, so I do have a Pinterest board,” adding, “I’m thinking about the dress.” Naturally, this only fueled speculation that had been simmering ever since the tech tycoon proposed with a breathtaking 30-carat pink diamond ring.
However, the 60-year-old founder of Blue Origin decided to put an end to the frenzy with a sharp rebuttal on X. “Furthermore, this whole thing is completely false, none of this is happening. The old adage ‘don’t believe everything you read’ is even more true today than it ever has been. Now lies can get ALL the way around the world before the truth can get its pants on. So be careful out there, folks, and don’t be gullible,” Bezos clarified. He continued, “It will be interesting to see if all the outlets that ‘covered’ and re-reported on this issue provide a correction when it comes and goes and doesn’t happen.”
With that statement, the rumors of a $600 million mega-wedding vanished into thin air, taking with them alleged bookings at the ritzy sushi restaurant Matsuhisa in Colorado’s ski town, whispers of a ceremony at Kevin Costner’s 160-acre Dunbar Ranch, reservations at the five-star St. Regis, and talk of the centibillionaire landing in Aspen with his entourage aboard a private jet.
This episode is a testament to how far rumors can spread, especially when they involve high-profile personalities and their private lives. Although Bezos has debunked all wedding news, there’s little doubt that when the big day does happen, it will be as grand as his luxury vessel. Even Tesla’s Elon Musk chimed in, quipping, “That said, I hope you do hold an epic wedding. It’s nice to know that epic events are happening somewhere in the world, even if one is not present. A world where there are amazing events somewhere is better than a world where they are happening nowhere.”
And if anyone in the business world knows a thing or two about extravagant weddings, it’s Mukesh Ambani and his family. Perhaps they can share some advice with Bezos and Sanchez, after all, they now have plenty of time to plan their dream day.
