The daughter of Albanian immigrants who rose to global stardom, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Dua Lipa has been unveiled as the face of the new Chanel 25 handbag. To some, it may seem like just another campaign with just another celebrity, but for the 28-year-old London-born musician, the connection runs deeper. In a Vogue interview, she shared, “You know, when I first signed my record deal in 2014, I left my job in a restaurant, and when I got my first big check, I went to the Chanel store. The first thing I bought was a Boy bag, it was all the rage. I was so proud. Later, I went and got a leather backpack. I think just the idea of being able to do that for myself was such an empowering thing. Like, wow, I bought that Chanel bag with my own money. I felt really proud of myself. For me, it carried a lot of independence.”
Fast forward to today, and the singer is striding into Chanel’s Spring-Summer 2025 Haute Couture show with the brand-new Chanel 25 bag on her arm, this time, as its official ambassador. The latest arm candy is a contemporary reinvention of the iconic Chanel 2.55 bag, a bestseller launched exactly 70 years ago. Reimagined as a supple hobo bag with spacious side pockets, it caters to modern women who prefer both style and practicality. The signature intertwined double C logo adds an aspirational touch to the already coveted piece.
Lipa, who has secured multiple Brit Awards, including British Album of the Year for Future Nostalgia, was photographed by Gordon von Steiner for the campaign.
Shot in the energetic style of a music video, the campaign follows Lipa through a day in New York as she effortlessly sashays through Manhattan’s bustling streets, looking every bit the star to the beat of “She Drives Me Crazy” by Fine Young Cannibals. Speaking about the bag, which comes in three sizes, she shared, “I’m obsessed with this bag. It’s the perfect kind of bag for me as someone who’s always on the move and likes to carry around everything, especially because it’s got these great pockets for all my favorite things. There’s a place for my books, a place for my sunglasses, maybe a notebook or two, and even a place for my crystals. It’s just the perfect everyday bag!” Lipa is also featured in a new still image by David Sims, which will be part of a wider campaign set to launch in March.
