It’s every bag lover’s dream to own a Birkin! But little had we known that thieves too fantasize about the iconic arm candy! However, proving so is a recent smash and grab incident at Palm beach wherein 13 Birkin bags worth $1 million were taken away!
The stolen pieces included eight of the French handbag maker’s Birkin bags and five Kellys, which were perched behind the front-facing windows on the street that is lined with other high-end shops. They were picked up in a sensational heist from the Only Authentics store on December 14, as per reports.
Some of the most expensive pieces from the loot included a 40-centimeter green crocodile skin Kelly priced at $89,000 and a 32-centimeter Vert Bosphore Birkin selling at $110,000. Other Hermes bags stolen during the raid were priced anywhere from $9,000 to $500,000.
Commenting on the incident, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, in a statement, said, “We are seeing lawlessness and out-of-control mobs preying on businesses and consumers in major cities outside of Florida, and we will not allow these crime sprees to harm Floridians or our retailers.”
She further added, “While we have done a good job of catching and prosecuting major retail theft rings in Florida, the threat is growing, and we must evolve with it.” Investigations into the incident are already underway; however, the store or the police remained unavailable for comment.
