The Temple of Boom, The Indiana Jones-themed room

When Larry and Colleen Halliday got bored with the idea of an ordinary home theatre system they decided to spike it up. They enlisted Doug Charrois with the job and like they say…rest is history. “A few torches, an idol and a little technology helped whip this Indiana Jones-themed room into theater quality.” “Larry saw the torches in a store and came up with the idea it would be cool to have a theme of Indiana Jones in the theater they were going to build in their up-and-coming new home,” says Charrois. It took six hard weeks of labor to construct the room. The 8-by-12-foot theater features a familiar face: the Nazi-loving monkey from the original “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” The top of the room resembles the entrance of a cave with the top worn out to expose the sky. Next to the door, there is a small equipment room, which also includes wiring for intercom, security, networking, and sound. Plenty of A/V equipment and three remotes, which include Lutron’s Grafik Eye system for theater lighting, Control4 Home Theater Controller prep the room.

The only thing missing from the setup is the giant ark to double as a bar (not that it wasn’t a thought.) They scaled down the ark sans the snakes slithering around theater seats. Replicas dotting the room include the Holy Grail, a jacket, hat, whips, torches, and more—including the idol from the opening of the original movie. Another exception is the room is that Larry had his face put in the picture on the door.
