Aston Martin has found itself a rather good co-star. The DBX, the only SUV the 107-year-old British marque has ever built, is now Tom Hardy’s ride of choice as Harry Da Souza in season two of Paramount+’s MobLand. Harry Da Souza is described as the show’s resident fixer, the man who turns up once everyone else’s plans have already gone wrong. The studio boss says the DBX pairs raw power with real sophistication, which is exactly the kind of thing you’d want your fixer arriving in.
Aston Martin and the MobLand team also rolled out a DBX wrapped in the show’s Chaos Reigns livery for demonstration laps at Monza during the Italian Grand Prix weekend, with cast members Emmett J. Scanlan and Mandeep Dhillon getting a taste of what the thing can actually do once let off the leash.
Which is, for the record, quite a lot. The DBX arrived in 2019 as Aston’s answer to the super-SUV question, namely how do you build a luxury SUV that can trouble supercars. The Bentayga and Cullinan had already proven there was serious money in tall, expensive things that could also hustle when needed, and Aston was fashionably late as ever. What it lacks in restraint it makes up for with a 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 borrowed from the AMG parts bin. In DBX707 guise that’s 697 horsepower and 664 lb ft sent through a nine speed wet clutch automatic to all four corners, good for 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and a 193 mph top speed.
Sitting above it now is the DBX S, the new flagship. Aston has borrowed turbo hardware straight from the Valhalla hypercar programme to push output to 727 horsepower, while shedding weight through a carbon fiber roof and lighter wheel options. Aston calls it the most engaging DBX yet, and after Monza it would be hard to argue otherwise.
Prices for the DBX707 start around $261,000, with the DBX S nudging past $266,500 before anyone has so much as glanced at the options list, which on an Aston is rarely a cheap exercise. Aston Martin has landed its most powerful production SUV on prime time television, chauffeuring a man whose entire job description is making problems disappear, quickly.
