Come 2025, Porsche will replace the universally loved gas-powered Cayman and Boxster with an all-electric version of the sports car. Before the battery-powered Porsche 718 officially debuts, the German automaker has revealed a new EV. However, it’s not a road-going vehicle. Behold the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom, a new sports boat that shares its powertrain with the electric Macan Turbo. Created in collaboration with the renowned Frauscher boatyard from Austria, the elegant watercraft is a follow-up to the award-winning Fantom Air introduced last year.
While the 850 Fantom Air is an open day cruiser, the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom has been launched as a classic runabout with a closed foredeck and cabin. As a result, the electric boat is now available in two different versions akin to Porsche sports coupés and convertibles. What that means is buyers can choose between a closed foredeck, a classic look, a cabin under the foreship or a central helm station with seating and reclining areas at the bow.
Intriguing design details and features include a Porsche steering wheel, a car-like instrument cluster, automotive-inspired seats, sunbathing pads, and a rear swimming platform. Furthermore, the boat features a 12-inch infotainment system along with a passenger display. The example seen here in the press photos is decked out in a beautiful shade of Oakgreen Metallic Neo, complemented by a Truffle Brown interior with orange contrast stitching.
Just like the Air version, which was named best electric boat in November 2024 as part of the prestigious Best of Boats Awards, the new eFantom will make its public debut at the Düsseldorf International Boat Show scheduled for next month. However, the company is already accepting orders for a First Edition that will be limited to 25 units. The 28.4-foot vessel is equipped with a 100kWh battery pack that powers a 536hp electric motor. The company claims the Fantom can hit a top speed of approximately 56mph.
The Fantom has a range of close to 28 miles while cruising at speeds up to 25mph, which substantially increases to around 62 miles during “slow driving.” The battery can be charged using a 270 kW DC fast charger or an 11 kW AC charger. The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom has a starting price of €572,934 (more than $600,000), which makes it five times more expensive than the electric Macan.
