Lego is celebrating the 45th anniversary of the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen with a 2,891-piece Technic set. It includes a six-cylinder in-line piston engine, a functioning steering wheel, an opening tailgate, and more

Attention all automotive enthusiasts and Lego fans! The Danish company has introduced a new Technic kit that commemorates the 45th anniversary of the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen. This comes just a few days after Lego revealed the McLaren P1 Technic set that offers a 1:8 detail-oriented recreation of the hybrid hypercar. Part of the company’s Ultimate Car Concept Series, Lego’s newest set is based on the Mercedes-Benz G 500 Professional Line model. It recreates all the details of the rugged luxury SUV with 2,891 pieces. The 1:8 model measures 8.5 inches high, 16.5 inches long, and eight inches wide and is “packed with authentic features and cool functions to quicken the pulse of any Mercedes-Benz fan.”

The Professional Line trim level on the G-Wagen is meant for those who want to enjoy an adventure-filled life by exploring the unexplored. The package adds 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, stone guards for the headlights, large mud flaps, and a roof rack with an integrated ladder and mounting for a rooftop tent.

The Lego Technic kit mirrors the aesthetics by perfectly capturing all these details along with the legendary SUV’s boxy design. The model comes with a fully operational steering system and a raised suspension, while a detailed recreation of the six-cylinder engine sits under the hood.

The Technic set also includes a functional gearbox with drive, neutral, and reverse, along with two differential locks. These features not only show the engineering prowess of Lego but are also a nod to the G-Wagon’s renowned off-road capability. Furthermore, working doors, a ladder, a spare wheel, a roof rack, and a working tailgate and hood add to the realism of the set and its overall immersive experience.
