For the first time in history, a presidential limousine has been offered for private sale. The car in question is one of three Cadillac Fleetwood armored limousines built for Bill Clinton at a reported development cost of over $6 million, or over $13 million when adjusted for inflation.
This 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham Presidential Limousine, with just 617 miles on the clock, goes up for sale with Mecum Auctions but considering how special it is and the fact that the other two aren’t likely ever to be sold, there’s no price estimate on the sale yet.
We’d hazard a guess that this presidential limo won’t have too much trouble finding a home with a collector no matter the price, though. For one, it packs an impressive 7.4-liter V8 handbuilt by Jack Roush’s team, an American engineering icon, and NASCAR team owner. Power figures aren’t available but going by what the engine is capable of in stock trim, expect upwards of 450 horsepower.
The Cadillac limousine will need every single one of them; 3-inch bulletproof glass and blast-proofing isn’t particularly light. Not to mention that the roof has been raised three inches, and the entire thing measures an astounding 270 inches long on a 167.5-inch long wheelbase.
For context, that makes it longer than the staple from Cadillac’s contemporary rival: Rolls-Royce. A modern Rolls-Royce Phantom EWB with the extended wheelbase measures nearly 30 inches shorter. Rounding off the car’s security features are run-flat tires and the usual crop of emergency lights and PA address systems.
Clinton’s Fleetwood limo can seat six in the back, three passengers facing forward and three the other way when the flush-folding seats are utilized. Blue leather upholstery and Zebrano wood inserts look suitably presidential as well. We hope whoever ends up with it never needs to test out just how bulletproof this presidential limo is.
