We have loved Aman Resorts – the idyllic locations, the subtle yet sophisticated luxury, and their exemplary showcase in wellness. The brand has now announced a new arm to their business endeavor – a retail collection. Named The Essentials by Aman, the inaugural collection will consist of activewear, loungewear, knitwear, swimwear, resort wear, and soft accessories.
The range clearly caters to the different parallels of the brand’s offering. From yoga mornings to a cozy candlelit dinner, there is a choice of outfits. According to the director of product development, Kristina Romanova, “There has been a lot of contention around seasonal trends across the fashion industry, with designers no longer sticking to the traditional calendar, and putting timeless pieces in their collections instead.”
The collection is designed, developed, and manufactured in Italy and features an interesting color palette that is “reminiscent” of Aman locations. The activewear range that includes training leggings, tops, shorts, and sports bras is made using extra fine microfiber elastane, which offers shape retention and ‘breathability’. This is perhaps the only questionable point in this new endeavor considering how much the brand usually reflects on sustainability.
Others in the collection include men’s and women’s everyday knitwear and loungewear crafted in Japanese cotton and Italian cashmere. There are also unisex pieces include a monogrammed matching set, comprising cotton shirt and trousers.
The Amanpuri Heritage Blanket takes the limelight in The Essentials, though. This pays homage to Aman’s flagship resort in Phuket and was manufactured by Loro Piana and features an iconic Amanpuri image, screen printed onto soft cashmere and trimmed with suede edging.
A unique trivia about the collection is in its motif, which is derived from the A of the Aman logo. The logo is symbolic of the hand-carved letterforms of the Futhark runic alphabet and references the original Sanskrit meaning of the Aman – peace, shelter, and sanctuary.
The Essentials is not Aman’s new diversion from the hospitality arm. It recently unveiled the Sva supplement range and the Aman Spa Candles. It doesn’t stop there though, the brand plans to develop its retail arm with leather accessories and fine jewelry in the foreseeable future.
