There is a thing like a luxury gas station and it’s coming up in Connecticut

It’s not unheard of to be refused entry into a members-only club or similar establishment, but soon Connecticut will play host to a gas station that boasts the same exclusivity. This luxury gas station will be a project from the Guess Corporation and is slated to be a four story mansion outfitted with –get this- its own waterpark, steakhouse, and designer clothing boutique! Gas stations were always the great equalizers where celebrities and VIPs had to pump their own gas like everyone else, with everyone else, but that’s all about to change.

The gas station destined for Greenwich, Connecticut will be part of a chain known as GP Clubs where you can only get gas if you have paid for a membership fee. GP Clubs will also boast a business center, video-conferencing center, meeting rooms, hotel suites, a medical clinic, a hair salon, and a convenience store. Is this a gas station with attached amenities? Or a hotel with an attached gas station? Either way, it doesn’t sound too great. Why would anyone want to live at a gas station hotel? Aren’t there enough decent five-star accommodations in the USA?

Predictably, you have to have oodles of money to join this fancy gas station community, $50 million to be exact. When you buy a membership, the company throws in a platinum-plated membership card (which allows access to GP Club in the U.S., as well as abroad), 24-hour emergency roadside assistance, and a 24/7 travel concierge service. 250 GP Clubs are will crop up all over the world in the next 36 months.

We’re not really sure what to say about this whole venture. Luxury is great, even luxury gas stations are great, but we would have stopped at a gas station where someone washes your car and pumps your gas for you while you sip a tall glass of fancy coffee. We’re really not sure that anyone will want to book a stay at the hotel or have a conference at a gas station. I do predict that celebrities with deep enough pockets will flock to these to avoid becoming paparazzi fodder as they refill the fuel tanks of their cars!
