BMW is all set to reduce emissions and go green with the all electric 5 Series and 7 Series

BMW has revealed its aggressive plans to cut down on carbon emissions and make a decisive move towards sustainable mobility. The German automaker announced on Monday its latest strategic direction which has set goals for the phase up to 2030. Included in the plan is BMW’s decision to develop all-electric versions of its 5 Series and 7 Series executive sedans. BMW hasn’t revealed any specifics of the electric versions of both the models, including the expected timeline for their launch. However, the EV variants won’t replace the existing line-up and would rather join the gas-powered, mild hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. A full-electric version of the 3 Series was also spotted in the wild recently with very little camouflage wrap hiding the details. This is also an indication that BMW will very soon add electric versions of most of its models from its portfolio.

BMW’s new strategic direction aims to reduce the average amount of CO2 its vehicles produce by at least a third over the next 10 years. “I firmly believe the fight against climate change and how we use resources will decide the future of our society – and of the BMW Group. As a premium car company, it is our ambition to lead the way in sustainability. That is why we are taking responsibility here and now and making these issues central to our future strategic direction,” said Oliver Zipse. “This new strategic direction will be anchored in all divisions – from administration and purchasing to development and production, all the way to sales. We are taking sustainability to the next level.” The German automaker also estimates there will be more than 7 million ‘electrified’ BMW Group vehicles on the road in the next 10 years. As a part of this plan, BMW will offer five EVs – the i3, i4, iX3, iNext, and Mini Electric – by the end of next year and add no fewer than 25 electrified models in its line-up, half of which will be full-EVs.
