Even the sky is no limit for MBS; the dynamic Saudi Crown Prince is now planning to build the world’s tallest skyscraper in Riyadh. Set to stretch 2 kilometers in the sky, it will be even taller than two Burj Khalifa towers put on top of each other.

Saudi Crown Prince MBS’s vision is ever-evolving, becoming mind-blowing with every passing week. It is stretching the realm of possibility while unveiling new levels of the power of money. After the 170-kilometer-long The Line in Neom City, a horizontal marvel of a skyscraper planned to rise to 500 meters, UK studio Foster + Partners is roped in to make matters vertically impressive. The renowned design house is reportedly designing a two-kilometer-high skyscraper (approximately 1.24 miles) in Riyadh, which if completed would be the world’s tallest building. The multi-billion gigaproject, backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), would be more than double the height of the 828m-tall Burj Khalifa in Dubai. One can always trust MBS to put Saudi Arabia on the map and how.


If he accomplishes this architectural feat of literally having two Burj Khalifas atop each, it would presumably be an over $4 billion structure that would become a towering crowning glory of the Kingdom, defeating the 600-meter-high Abraj Al Bait Royal Clock Tower in Mecca. Foster + Partners has designed the new international luxury airport in Saudi Arabia. They also designed one of three hotels planned for Ummahat AlShaykh island, part of the Red Sea Project, the fascinating eco-friendly luxury destination Coral Bloom, and a unique new terminal for Abha International Airport based on the nearby Rijal Almaa village, among others.

The nation’s fascination to make the world’s tallest tower in Saudi Arabia is not new. Back in 2015, the Kingdom secured funds to build Jeddah Tower, a 1,000-meter-tall entity only 172 meters taller than the Burj Khalifa that was stalled. Not only is Prince Mohammed bin Salman aiming to construct a tower that’s literally double the height of Dubai’s icon, but in 2023 he also kickstarted the construction work on the ambitious Jeddah Tower project.

The ball is clearly in Saudi Arabia’s court now; whichever of the two towers gets completed first, it is sure to dethrone Dubai’s Burj Khalifa. The 2 km tall skyscraper will be located near the King Khalid International Airport, which Foster + Partners is also currently busy expanding and is situated north of the Saudi capital Riyadh.
