Expanding its range of high-end speakers, Bang & Olufsen has launched a new speaker under its PLAY brand dubbed the BeoPlay S8 which is an entry-level stereo speaker system designed to complement the existing Beolab 14 speaker range with a more compact design that easily fits anywhere in the house. It has been designed by award-winning Danish industrial designer Torsten Valeur and is built from single pieces of pearl-blasted aluminum for both “a sleek, uninterrupted finish” and “acoustic stability”, according to B&O. Shaped like a vase, the speakers can easily fit in the any home décor and is free from any kind of busy design elements. The speakers can either be mounted on the wall or placed on a table, with B&O offering a variety of brackets and stands.
The pearl-blasted aluminum sub contains both a 280W class D amplifier dedicated to bass, and two 140W class D amps to drive the 2.5-inch full-range speaker drivers. The S8 uses AirPlay technology to link wirelessly to almost any device you can point at it, providing flexible, high-definition audio without the need of cables. Available in physical Bang & Olufsen stores and via the B&O PLAY website, the S8 goes on sale across Europe this August and is priced at £999 ($1,657).
