We have seen a few expensive olive oils, limited-edition manuka honey, and now we are lucky to have come across a compelling new variety of butter. This butter is not only better but is also touted as one of the finest foods in the world. Called ‘Ridiculous No55 Lobster & Crab Butter’, this premium variety is laced with British Isles lobster, Devon crab, caviar, lemon, and fennel, was one of the products to win three stars at this year’s Great Taste awards. Produced by Sublime Butter, a family-run business based in Richmond, west London, the smooth-as-silk, melt-in-mouth butter comes in a bespoke, limited-edition butter dish handmade in Italy.
Winning the Great Taste Awards is no small feat as about 350 food experts, chefs, and critics, blind-taste each product and choose their winner. The Guild of Fine Foods, which hosts most of the judging at its Dorset HQ, had 14,113 entries from 108 countries. On Ridiculous No55 Lobster & Crab Butter winning the top spot, Company founder, Chris Mair, said: ‘The Great Taste awards are like the Oscars of food. Because we won three stars, we will be on for the gold fork awards that will take place in a couple of weeks, so fingers crossed.’ He continued, ‘It’s ridiculous by name and by nature because we didn’t spare any expense on the ingredients. It’s like our very own Willy Wonka range.’
Joining this delicious butter are other winners: Chian Tangerine Spread made in Tavros Attica, Greece, and raw stingless bee honey harvested in Singapore. What made the judges select Ridiculous No55 Lobster & Crab Butter as a winner? Hear it from the connoisseurs butter-filled mouth; the judge said, ‘You can tell a butter is good when you want to sit there and eat spoonfuls of it without any bread or biscuits to go alongside. This is such an exciting, innovative product. The butter has been whipped perfectly to give a wonderful mouth feel.’
He added, ‘The fennel comes through with sophistication as does the citrus and generous pieces of shellfish just add to the overall luxury.’ The proud and delectable winner of the Great Taste award will display a distinctive black and gold logo as a stamp of excellence.
