ITC Grand Central has kick-started a unique culinary voyage at its restaurant Shanghai Club. The journey will cover cuisines from five different provinces of China – Sichuan, Hunan, Cantonese, Shanghai, and Beijing showcasing gastronomical delights from the region. From January 25th to February 05th 2019, it would showcase Sichuan Cuisine, February 27th to March 06th 2019- Hunan Cuisine, March 29th to April 2nd 2019 – Cantonese Cuisine, April 26th to May 05th 2019- Shanghai Cuisine and May 31st to June 09th 2019 -Beijing Cuisine.
I tried the Sichuan Cuisine for myself which happened to be a stellar affair. The Seaweed Shrimp Soup initiated my meal on a perfectly delectable note. I also devoured the crispy, spicy, Duck Spring Rolls. Wok-tossed prawns with Sichuan style hotspot sauce is also worth trying. For others, there’s scrumptious Sichuan pepper chicken and lamb options too. Vegetarians must try the beautifully-flavoured Stir-fried asparagus.
For mains, the best from the night has to be the Garlic and Sichuan peppers fried pokchoy and asparagus. Lobster in green garlic sauce and Almond fried-rice with their delicate textures and spot-on flavours left their mark and remain something I would return back to the restaurant for. I ended my meal with the indulgent Chocolate five spice cake and the crowning glory of the meal- Lemon and coconut rice pudding- The best I’ve had as I make a mental note to come back to relish these gastronomic delights very soon.
