Lexus teases a working magnetic hoverboard through its Amazing in Motion video series

It has been 26 years since the movie ‘Back to the Future 2’ first hit theaters and technology has grown by leaps and bounds in this period; however, we still don’t have a workable hoverboard. Many attempts have been made; some turned out to be gimmicks, some pretty much unusable and rest were a result of pure fiction. Nevertheless, 2015 finally might be the year we get a functional hoverboard. The latest video in Lexus’ Amazing in Motion series has teased what the company is claiming to be a working hoverboard that manages to float about an inch off the ground.

You can see in the video, the board hovers effortlessly over the ground while emitting smoke, but the clip does not show any one actually hop on the magnetically-levitating device for a ride. According to Gizmodo, this project has been in development for over the last 18 months, but Lexus didn’t give out more specific information on how it works. The website explains that it’s magnetic, with liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and permanent magnets, made with a Lexus grille and natural bamboo – and that’s about it. So all we can do at the moment is speculate and hope the carmaker reveals more info in the coming days.
