Seven years back when BMW introduced the X6 for the first time, the sports SUV carved a niche for itself with its sporty stance and sloping roof. But few expected it to do good let alone be a successful model for the German automaker. Not only has it has managed to surprise everyone by selling more than quarter of a million units till date, but BMW has now launched a new version of the X6. The new BMW X6 is based on the refreshed X5, and thus shares the same 2933mm wheelbase but is 60mm lower and 23mm longer than the Bavarian marquee’s large SUV. But judging by the pictures officially unveiled by BMW, the new X6 looks strikingly similar to the smaller X4, so much so that it might be really hard for people to distinguish without the badges on the bodywork.
As far as the new design elements are concerned, the new BMW X6 carries the updated styling which can be found on all the new models. As a result, the headlights are now stretched and flow directly in to the double kidney grille. It has Air Curtains on either side of the front bumper which work along with new Air Breathers in the side panels to reduce drag. BMW will also offer something called Design Pure Extravagance option for both exterior and interior of the X6. It will offer stainless steel underbody guards, bespoke 20-inch alloys and aluminum surrounds for the window and mirror caps for the exterior and extended leather and a key featuring chrome buttons for the interior. The new BMW X6 will arrive at the dealerships by December 2014 and will be available with two diesel engines ,the 30d and M50d, with the 50i rounding off the range. A 35i and 40d arrive next year in spring 2015. The pricing is yet to be announced.
