Gucci celebrates 60 years of its Horsebit loafer with an exhibition

Italian luxury label Gucci has been a trendsetter from its very inception. The brand, which recently completed 90 years, has to its credit many styles and launches which command icon status. Gucci’s Horsebit loafer is one such example. This stylish footwear celebrates its 60th Anniversary, marked by a dedicated exhibit at the Gucci Museo in Florence. A coinciding global campaign with store windows and a Facebook page dedicated to the loafer is also in the offing. The exhibition will trace the history of this wardrobe staple; from being a favorite of Hollywood actors in the ‘50s and ‘60s, becoming part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s permanent collection in 1985 to being worn by Madonna at MTV Video Music Awards and Brad Pitt in the 1999 film Fight Club.

Gucci’s Horsebit loafer came into being in 1953 when Guccio Gucci’s son, Aldo, expanded the family’s business to incorporate footwear. Since then, it has been a hot pick of celebrities, socialites, and fashionistas alike. Happy Anniversary and many more to come!
