We love all thing shiny, and when news first broke about Apple designer John Ive coupling with revered industrial designer Marc Newson for an all-diamond ring was beyond exciting. The glittering masterpiece was created with gemstone manufacturer Diamond Foundry to create the ring for a (RED) charity auction through Sotheby’s in 2018. The auction raised funds for HIV/AIDS programs in Africa and in Chicago, and the ring alone pulled in $256,250 from an anonymous buyer. If I remember correctly it was earlier expected to fetch anywhere between $150,000 to $250,000 and it surely has done very well. (RED) COO, Jennifer Lotito comments: ‘this is more than just a ring. It’s a thing of absolute beauty and sustainability which is going to save lives. We’re so grateful to Jony, Marc, and diamond foundry for delivering exquisite design and craft to help end AIDS.’
The ring is astonishingly beautiful and totally one of its kind as the finished ring perfectly reflects the blueprinted design, with 2,000 to 3,000 facets — never before seen on a single piece.
