Mercedes-Benz EQ sub-brand launched in India; all-electric EQC SUV to arrive in April 2020

Mercedes-Benz has officially launched its all-electric EQ sub-brand in India and has confirmed that the EQC SUV will make its India debut in April this year. This move will most likely make Mercedes the first luxury car manufacturer to introduce an all-electric car in the country; Audi and Jaguar are yet to announce the launch dates for e-Tron and I-Pace respectively. Unveiled back in 2018, the EQC is the brand’s first series-production EV and it has been on sale in Europe since last year. The German automaker will bring the luxury electric crossover through the CBU (completely built unit) route and is expected to be identical to the global model in terms of specs and aesthetics.

In terms of design, the Mercedes-Benz EQC looks familiar and features the brand’s current design philosophy, except for the front end which is unique to the EV. The distinctive nose has a prominent front grille with a black surround that blends seamlessly with the LED headlights. A fiber-optic light strip that runs across the hood complement the daytime running lights of the headlamps. The cabin layout and design are also similar to the brand’s regular crossovers except for some minor styling bits that hint at the car’s electric powertrain. The EQC is powered by a pair of electric motors placed at both axles, which together produce 402bhp and gives the crossover all-wheel-drive capability. The motors draw power from an 80 kWh lithium-ion battery that promises a range of around 400km in a single charge. Mercedes is yet to announce the pricing and is likely to reveal it when the model is launched in April.
