Tiffany & Co. has unveiled a $50,000 clock, inspired by the vintage 1950s New York City taxicab

Tiffany & Co.’s $50,000 clock offers a whimsical and vintage twist on traditional timepieces. Inspired by a 1950s New York City taxicab, Tiffany Taxi perfectly exhibits that time is constant and transient, much like the NYC taxi that makes nearly 800 monthly trips per Purewow. The clock’s distinctive appearance draws from the Golden Age’s popular Tailfin Fender, adorned with a yellow taxi sign above its windshield. Its aluminum body is enveloped in the instantly recognizable, signature Tiffany Blue. The American luxury jeweler’s logo shines from the license plate, adding a touch of elegance.

By now, most need a reminder that this is not just a fantastic luxury collectible but a timepiece. The Tiffany Taxi boasts two independent movements, each with its own power source: one in the driver’s seat for telling time and the other powering the engine. Time can be read in the driver’s seat, where hours and minutes are displayed on rotating stainless-steel disks situated on the air filters. The time is set using the three-spoke steering wheel.

Way back in 2018, Tiffany had colored some of New York’s famous yellow taxis blue.

What makes this piece even more intriguing is the second movement, allowing the owner to start the engine. Turning the key activates the pistons in the V-8 engine, simulating movement. A manual gear lever is included for various functions, such as winding the time movement, energizing the engine, or setting it to neutral.

All these remarkable features are encapsulated in a body measuring 5.5 inches in height, 7.4 inches in width, and 18.6 inches in length, with a weight of 11.7 pounds. The Tiffany Taxi has zipped in, pun intended, just in time for the festive season and is available for $50,000. An even more exclusive version is showcased at the 727 Fifth Avenue location in NYC, featuring a gold and blue license plate with “NY-727” to honor the address, priced at $52,000.
