Stepping into the sprawling lobby at The Westin Mumbai Garden City, I knew I was in for a treat as I made my way to their Heavenly Spa. The spa at the Westin is known to create new, innovative treatments that are a boon to our skin given the changing weather.
Their latest offering is the Nourishing Avocado Scrub Treatment, which caught my fancy because the core ingredient is quite an unusual choice. After being greeted by the spa director and my masseuse for the day, I was offered a cup of fragrant chamomile tea to unwind and relax before the treatment.
After quickly sipping on the calming concoction, I made my way to the changing area and slipped into the steam room for a preparatory detox. The masseuse then walked me to my treatment chamber titled the Mint Room, which overlooked a stretch of palm trees; a pleasing sight amidst the cacophony of the city.
The treatment began with a foot wash, followed by the masseuse introducing me to the power packed ingredients that formed the scrub – avocado, honey, vitamin E oil and aloe vera gel. Each of these has their own special benefits for the skin, with the antioxidant and vitamin-rich avocados (which are freshly scooped, might I add) being the star of the show.
The cooling scrub brought relief to the body and I felt myself relaxing from the get-go. What followed this was slightly intriguing. The masseuse wrapped me up in a cling sheet and then with a cloth so that the scrub would be completely soaked into my skin. Although my movements were restricted, I have to admit it felt really snug in there while the masseuse went on to scrub and massage my face.
A few minutes later, I was unwrapped and headed to the shower to clean off the avocado remnants on my skin. Truth be told, the treatment showed its effects almost immediately. I found my skin supple and a layer light.
Basking in my detoxed state of being, I was led to the lounge where a glass of avocado smoothie awaited me. Chatting with the spa director, I was told that at The Westin, the approach to wellness is of the holistic sense. They believe that beauty and wellness don’t just come from external treatments but a boost of internal goodness as well, hence the smoothie.
I was impressed with the entire treatment and even more so when I got to know that it’s a brainchild of the director, Nilesh Kantak. Several months of research and trial and testing later, the power-packed treatment made its way to the spa and is a definite recommend.
With the winter drawing close, at least the kind we experience in a city like ours, it’s the perfect time to pamper yourself with something new. Inside out is the trend of the season and at The Westin, the avocados are looking good.
