1870’s Guerlain bottle fetches $55,600 setting a new world record


Arcachon auction house Toledano recently held an auction of rare and precious perfume bottles in Arcachon, southwest of France. The auction that took place under French fragrance expert Bernard Gangler featured over 250 bottles of perfumes. The sale witnessed a great response from bidders who definitely didn’t hold back when acquiring some of the rarest perfume flacons. An engraved Guerlain bottle from 1870 set a new world record by fetching a whopping €45,600 ($55,600) at this sale. The precious Guerlain flacon engraved with the Guerlain boutique’s original address, “Rue de la Paix,” was originally estimated at 20,000 € to 30,000€ ($23,950 to $35,891).

Besides the antique Guerlain bottle, a lesser-known perfume flacon, Depinoix by Julien Viard (from 1920), broke a “world record,” fetching €32,400 ($38,765).
The auction that saw participation from bidders across the globe, including India, Russia, China, and France, was a success courtesy of the record-breaking sales.
