Review: We try the offerings by the ravishing-House of Grills, real Middle-Eastern indulgences

Fresh, wholesome, healthy, rich, aromatic — it’s no wonder that the Middle Eastern cuisine’s global profile has been skyrocketing. Having been a lover of the cuisine, I often ponder over the dearth of a good Middle-Eastern meal, back here in Mumbai. Having said that, I recently tried House of Grills that serves up a compact menu of Middle Eastern grills in Versova.

The 35-seater space offers dishes ranging from a traditional shakshuka to Lebanese flatbreads and more. I start off with the scrumptious hummus- the big daddy chickpea spread can be slathered on anything from a burger or baked potato to the traditional hot pita bread. It’s fresh, luscious and one of the best I’ve had in recent times. I also highly recommend the delicious shawarmas. The tender bits of skewered chicken, garlic puree and salad wrapped in pita have made it a snack I thoroughly enjoyed gorging on. There are options ranging from Mushroom Shawarma for vegetarians to Arabic, Moroccan and Mutton Shawarma variants.

The grilled kebabs like the Reshmi Tikka, Malai Tikka, Achari Aloo are also worth a nosh. On offer are also some delish Lebanese curries and Chinese options. Opt for the Vegetarian Mixed Khafsa Rice or a red, spicy Morrocan Mint Curry. Moreover, the Cheese Zata’ar Naan is everything addictive. The menu boasts of some great slushes and smoothies as well. I ended my meal with the Carrot Phirni- a delightful dessert lover’s dream brought to life.

Overall, I loved how the menu has something for vegetarians as well as non-vegetarians. There’s a freshness that the ingredients bring in and the various sauces used do add to the zing. They bring to life culinary magic and do serve you lots of reasons to keep going for it. The restaurant does deliveries, so you can opt for it on days you don’t feel like stepping out as well.
